Play Video of One Rusty Johnson Music I Music II

photo of Rusty Johnson Saxophone Rusty Johnson has been called one the most promising young saxophonists in Dallas. Born and raised in the Midwest, Rusty recently migrated south to pursue a Master's degree in jazz studies at the University of North Texas. Since that move, he has become one of the busiest musicians in the Dallas metro while managing a tour schedule that has taken him from the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., to the arenas of Shanghai. Rusty has toured in countries such as: Romania, Mexico, Canada, and China.  With his truly unique saxophone sound, Rusty specializes in jazz, pop, and contemporary worship, dazzling and inspiring audiences at every performance.

At the age of 25, Rusty has shared the stage with 4-time Grammy Award winner Steven Curtis Chapman, Peruvian drummer and percussionist Alex Acuna, Grammy nominated trombonist John Fedchock, Gaither recording artist Marvin Mathews, drummer Antonio Sanchez who is currently playing with the Pat Metheny Group, Dallas legends jazz pianist Buddy Shanahan, vocalist Sandra Kaye, and many more.

When not touring or performing, Rusty takes to another of his passions, child welfare advocacy.  Raised in the Iowa child welfare system, Rusty uses his personal experience to connect with youth, foster parents, communities, and legislators.  In 2004, Rusty worked with Congressman Silvestre Reyes on Capitol Hill to promote the Child Welfare Agenda through legislation such as One Church, One Child.  Rusty has spoken at numerous engagements throughout the country and has been awarded numerous awards including the Central College TRIO Achiever, State of Iowa Certificate of Recognition, signed by the 80th General Assembly, and the El Paso CARE Coalition.

Currently Rusty is pursuing both his music and advocacy.  Rusty, along with the Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, and Design America, are proud to announce the Rusty Johnson's American Dreams Concert, benefiting Iowa's foster youth.  In November 2006 Rusty is coming home to Iowa.  And with him will be some of the country's finest musicians for a homecoming concert that will kickoff a statewide campaign to raise awareness and hope for youth in foster care.  All ticket sales will be donated to the Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parent Association for arts, fitness and mentoring programs.

Rusty hopes to soon release his first CD.
